Reptilian
Hazards and Manual Handling
An
incident has occurred yet again. Would you believe it?
Honestly.
The purpose of this bulletin is to bring it to the attention of staff.
Recently,
a crew consisting of a TQAT and an old-hand stretcher monkey trod on the
head of a prized Iguana whilst on a non-urgent “white” call.
This
resulted in the death of “Iggy” and a reportable manual handling
hazard incident which required the attendance of another A&E crew and
further cost to the Trust.
What
a Public Relations nightmare!
Whilst
it may be possible to kill pets on any
call it is imperative that staff check for any scaly, armoured stoat-like
creatures to ensure that this does not occur.
Revised
copies of Training
Order 5P OO F / reptiles, pets and death: head crushing & other causes
(winter pressure related)
are available from Station Officers. So read it, all right.
